#TadabburTuesday – Quality Over Quantity

November 7, 2015 by Sajid Umar Leave a Comment

#TadabburTuesday – Shaikh Sajid Umar Telegram Channel –

We have a brain and indeed our brain is a gift from Allah Almighty and a means of perception!

And we have a heart and indeed the heart is the turbine behind all success and guidance!

And then we have the Qur’an and indeed The Qur’an is the greatest miracle and the true light which provides our minds and hearts with an unprecedented potential to comprehend.

The Qur’an, dear all, is an unimaginable treasure and the only way to explore the make up of the contents of this treasure is to recite the Qur’an with care and a present mind and heart.

After all, the Qur’an was revealed in order for us to ponder over it’s aayat, as Allah Almighty says in Surah Saad, Aayah no. 29:

كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ

[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.

So the next time you raise the book of Allah Almighty, think QUALITY and not always QUANTITY…

Your heart and mind deserve a good pampering! 😊

#ReflectionFriday – Defeatism Is The Not The Attitude

November 7, 2015 by Sajid Umar Leave a Comment

#ReflectionFriday – Shaikh Sajid Umar Telegram Channel –

On several occasions I hear from individuals the statement: ‘I can’t do it’ or ‘It’s too hard for me’ and ‘I’m not going to win here’ – and then I reflected on the lives of the Prophets of Allah Almighty (May peace be upon them all)…

Dear brother and sister, Islam teaches us that defeatism is not the attitude of successful believers. In fact, it’s their greatest vice.

Understand that every Prophet who walked this earth believed in the unseen, in the unbelievable, in the possibility of the impossible – by definition, the Power and Might of Allah Almighty to make anything happen. And surely, this is the greatest certainty one can ever have in Allah Almighty.

From this point onwards, I want you to forget negativity and forget defeat. I want you to face the one good habit or deed you would like to bring into your life. I want you to face the one bad habit and one bad deed that you would love to release from your life. Face this matter whilst upright and with your head held high! Face this matter believing that you can win and succeed and believing that (Laa Hawla wa Laa Quwwata Illaa Billah! – The is no power and no might accept from Allah Almighty).

You can be more than you would like to be and your power to change is in your heart! Believe!

May Allah Almighty forgive our past and inspire our futures- Ameen!

#SunnahSaturday – Do Not Retaliate…

November 7, 2015 by Sajid Umar Leave a Comment

#SunnahSaturday – Sheikh Sajid Umar Telegram Channel –

Dear all,

Jabir ibn Sulaim reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Beware of pride, for Allah does not love pride. If a person abuses and reviles you in a matter he knows about you, then do not revile him in a matter you know about him, for then you will have his reward and he will have your sin. Thus, do not revile anyone.”

Musnad Ahmad #2013.

We learn from this hadeeth that it is impermissible to let other people dictate our values. If someone backbites you, it is impermissible for you backbite them in return, and the same applies to all other acts of sin.

Many a time we allow ourselves to drown in the heat of the moment and then blame the other person for our drowning. Shaitan deceives us into justifying our wrong and we engage that wrong as if it’s halal and permissible just because someone else did it to us…

Always remember that you will always be a product of your decisions. Decide well and always choose to uplift your well rounded morals. Choose never to be a product of someone else’s bad character. You can never be a loser doing so!

May Allah grant us the understanding. Ameen.

Sajid Umar.

#TadabburTuesday – Lessons From Surah Taubah

November 7, 2015 by Sajid Umar Leave a Comment

#TadabburTuesday – Sheikh Sajid Umar Telegram Channel –

Allah Almighty says:

﴿ وَقُلِ اعْمَلُوا فَسَيَرَى الله عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ﴾
[ سورة التوبة: 105 ]

TRANSLITERATION

wa-quli ʿmalū fa-sa-yarā llāhu ʿamalakum wa-rasūluhū wa-l-muʾminūna wa-sa-turaddūna ʾilā ʿālimi l-ghaybi wa-sh-shahādati fa-yunabbiʾukum bi-mā kuntum taʿmalūn

TRANSLATION

And say, “Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so will] His Messenger and the believers. And you will be returned to the Knower of everything hidden and apparent, and He will inform you of what you used to do.”

My dear brothers and sisters, this aayah is a poignant message teaching us several important lessons, some of which are:

1. Our deeds should be solely for the sake of Allah Almighty alone.
2. Allah Almighty is well aware of our purpose during our activities. He knows whether we intended Him or intended other than Him.
3. Allah Almighty is the Universal Observer and Witness over everything that we do. He is well aware of our actions before any surveillance registers our very movements.
4. We as human beings should not remain in apathy because of the lack of belief in us from those around us.
5. We as human beings should act and continue doing that which is right, even when the odds are stacked up against us.
6. Allah Almighty will make our deeds known to the Messenger (SAW) and the believers on the day of judgement. In fact some of the scholars of Tafseer have recorded that Allah Almighty will make our deeds known to those alive and around us, and those who have passed away! This does not mean however that our sincerity should become affected and that we should start acting for the sake of other besides Allah Almighty.
7. Some of our pious predecessors used to say that this aayah should be read out to those who do good work as a means of advice and support. Advice reminding them to work for Allah Almighty alone and support in teaching them that Allah Almighty is well aware of everything they do, irrespective of how small and minute the action is considered to be.

I implore all readers reading this message to

-never become affected by those who don’t attend your invite. Attend their invites for the sake of Allah.

-never stop visiting your relatives, family and friends because they have stopped visiting you. Visit them for the sake of Allah.

-never stop caring and being professional in your job or placement in an Islamic project because others are not pulling their weight. In fact work harder and more diligently for the sake of Allah.

-never be swayed from progress because of lack of appreciation. Continue progressing for the sake of Allah.

-never be satisfied with a B grade because everyone else got a C grade. You can be pleased. But never be satisfied. Chase that A and increase your application for the sake of Allah.

-never let the character and values of others define your character and values. Pursue the Sunnah at all costs for the sake of Allah.

– and last but not least! Never allow anyone to walk in your head with their dirty feet! Accept constructive criticism, but never turn back on your heels because of the jealousy of arm-chair critics.

Much has been said and there is much more to say.

Ponder over the words of Allah Almighty and remain guided.

I love you for the sake of Allah.

#SaturdaySunnahReflections – Table Manners

November 7, 2015 by Sajid Umar Leave a Comment

#SaturdaySunnahReflections – Sheikh Sajid Umar Telegram Channel –

‘Umar bin Abu Salamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), said to him, “Young boy, mention Allah’s Name (i.e., say Bismillah before starting eating), eat with your right hand, and eat from what is near you.”

[Bukhari and Muslim].

Lesson…

‘Umar was a young boy and blessed to be brought up around the Messenger (SAW). He was fortunate to share meals with the Messenger (SAW) and during an occassion the Messenger (SAW) taught him a valubale lesson as stated in the above narration.

We learn several lessons from this hadeeth, as follows:

1. Our children are never too young to be taught good manners and ideals. Never leave nurturing your children until very late under the guise of them being too young.

2. The Messenger (SAW) addressed young ‘Umar in a sweet and respectful manner with a lot of patience, despite the young boy’s animated eating habits. There are other narrations that actually mention the hand of young ‘Umar (RA) moving carelessly around the plate before the Messenger (SAW) addressed him with this lesson.

Today we tend to let human nature get the better of us and as soon as we see the mess we now have to clean up; we seize to be educators and tread the path laying down a good old scolding 😰

The Messenger (SAW) always teaches us that Cool Calm and Collected should always be our way. This narration is no exception- Alhamdulillah.

3. When we eat, we should begin by remembering Allah Almighty and saying ‘Bismillah’.

Saying ‘Bismillah’ before meals entails several benefits, such as:

a) A blessed meal! A blessed meal is one that fills us with fewer morsels. Eating more entails hard work. We can either eat hard or eat SMART. Saying ‘Bismillah’ entails eating smart! 🙂

b) Shaitan is driven away and siezes to be company to us during our meal.

c) #TheSunnahtheBetter! Saying ‘Bismillah’ entails following the way of the Messenger (SAW) and following His way (SAW) is always better for us – Alhamdulillah.

4. The fourth lesson we derive from this narration is the importance of eating with our right hand. And YES brothers and sisters- we should do so even when using a fork and knife! So ensure that fork is in your right hand and learn how to steady your left hand. After all; you do not want to be cutting everything else but your steak during that expensive meal… 😅

5. We should eat from that part of the plate which is closest to us, especially when we are eating from a shared platter. The scholars however add to this and explain after looking over other evidences that it is permissible to eat from the furthest part of the plate if that section carries a different variety of food.

May Allah Almighty grant us the best table manners- Ameen.

I love you all for the sake of Allah.

#TadabburTuesday – Allah Absolutely Cares…

November 7, 2015 by Sajid Umar Leave a Comment

#TadabburTuesday – Sheikh Sajid Umar Telegram Channel-
Allah Almighty says in Surah Yusuf, aayah 90:

{إِنَّهُ مَنْ يَتَّقِ وَيَصْبِرْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ}
Translation:

“Verily whosoever is God conscious and is patient; then Allah wastes not the reward of the righteous.”

Lesson:

My dear brothers and sisters, many a time Shaitaan penetrates us and causes us to stop doing good to others and ourselves only because of the no care attitude others to posses and the lack of concern they have towards us.

Many a time we find ourselves wanting to work less or aspire less because the hierarchy refuses to recognize our efforts or talent.

Many a time we give up and don’t feel bothered because nobody else bothers and cares.

My dear brothers and sisters I present to you an aayah that is the light of your life and your hereafter for in it Allah Almighty announces to us that He absolutely cares, subhanahu wa ta’aala.

He announces to us that He absolutely takes notice, subhanahu wa ta’aala.

He announces to us that He takes notice of our efforts, subhanahu wa’ta’aala.

And He informs us that He is The Best of Protectors and does not only look after the rewards of the good deeds we know about, but also those good deeds that we have forgotten about or did without even realizing that it was a good deed when we practiced them.

Subhanallah!

My dear brothers and sisters we all need to thank Allah for placing our fate in His hands, for indeed He is the most Merciful. Alhamdulillah our fate is not in the hands of others who hold us accountable for every small or big matter.

My dear brother and sister, the next time you feel down and feel the need to refrain engaging righteousness, just because of someone else’s attitude! Ask yourself; for whom am I doing this deed. For the creation or for the the Creator? For mankind that forgets or for the Most Merciful that will never ever let the smallest of rewards become lost!

Ask yourself these important questions and allow yourself to be realigned and rejuvenated inShaAllah.

I leave you with the aayah above to ponder over and for further reference please revise aayah 120 of Surah tawbah and aayah 30 of Surah Kahf.

Please make sure you do!

I love you all for the sake of Allah.

Your brother

#SaturdaySunnahReflections – Bad Dreams

November 7, 2015 by Sajid Umar Leave a Comment

#SaturdaySunnahReflections – Sheikh Sajid Umar Telegram Channel –

It was narrated from Jaabir that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “If any one of you sees a dream that he dislikes, let him spit drily to his left three times and seek refuge with Allah from the Shaytaan three times, and turn over onto his other side.”

(Narrated by Imam Muslim, 2262).

Lesson:

Many people write in asking about waking up at night due to bad dreams and the Islamic teaching related to them. The narration above cites three etiquettes related to this topic as follows:

1. We should turn our head to the left and spit drily three times. This refers to spitting without the spittle. The wisdom behind this is to chase away shaitaan and his associates so that they cease to disturb us during our dream state.

2. Seek refuge in Allah Almighty. This is done by saying:

أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم

aoothu bil-laahi minash shaytaanir rajeem

Or by seeking refuge in Allah from shaitaan in a language you speak.

3. Turning to the opposite side to the side you were sleeping facing and attempting to go back to sleep. So if he was facing his right side, he should now face his left and vice-versa.

It should be noted as well that that from the etiquettes of seeing a bad dream is that we do not seek an interpretation for it. This is the teaching of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and found in many an authentic narration.

And Allah knows best.

#TadabburTuesday – Reflections from Surah alAnfaal

November 7, 2015 by Sajid Umar Leave a Comment

#TadabburTuesday – Sajid Umar Telegram Channel –

Allah Almighty says in Surah alAnfaal:

إِن جَنَحُوا لِلسَّلْمِ فَاجْنَحْ لَهَا وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ()

Translation:

“And if they incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allah . Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Knowing.”

Lesson:

My dear brothers and sisters, today we hear many a comment by non-Muslims regarding Islam being a religion of warfare and conflict. This message has become even more prominant today given the media attention afforded to extereme groups well known to us all, which act in the name of Islam those acts which are not from Islam . May Allah grant us all steadfastness.

The aayah I have shared for today’s #TadabburTuesday post is clear and manifest in proving that Islam is a religion of peace and only resorts to warfare if warfare is the only way to acsertain peace and stop oppression. It also establishes that the choice of ‘raising arms’ should only be used as a last resort.

There are many aayaat in the Qur’an that prove this and with regards to our discussion today; the following points prove this beyond any doubt. These points are as follows:

1- This aayah is not abrogated, according to the preferred opinion of many scholars, such as ibn Katheer and others, and thus cannot be left out of consideration in this discussion.

2- The aayah is a command towards peace and placed after the aayah commanding the believers towards becoming organised before the enemy. This placement teaches us that God Almighty has only permitted warfare as a last resort and if any opportunity for peace and a ceasefire arrives; it should be considered seriously until completion, irrespective of the harms already caused by the oppostion.

3- In aayah number 62 of Surah alAnfaal, straight after the above quoted aayah, God Almighty encourages the believers towards choosing peace and a ceasefire even if the Muslims doubt the sincerity of the opposition with regards to this break from conflict. The Muslims are commanded to judge the opposition based on the apparent and respect the ceasefire as long as the rules of the agreement between the parties are upheld.

Furthermore if we delve into the biography of the Messenger (Peace and Blessings be upon Him), we find him supporting the completion of the treaty of Hudaybiyyah even though the conditions set in the treaty favoured the polytheists and were unfavourable towards the believers. Some of the very own companions of the Messenger (SAW)) were suprised at how forthcoming the Messenger (SAW) was in allowing the polytheists to get their way.

In fact, before this treaty we have evidence of many other treaties related to peace and co-operation between the Muslims and other parties such as the Jews of Yathrib.

Further proof of this being an established part of religion is found in the many treaties struck by many of the companions of the Messenger (SAW) during the reign of Umar (Peace be upon him) several years after the death of the Messenger (SAW).

If Islam was about war and not peace; these treaties would not have gone ahead nor found in the corpus of established Islamic literature that has reached us today across the many centuries of Islam.

Indeed the Messenger (SAW) is all about peace and time and time again the Qur’an and life of the Messenger (SAW) and his rightly guided companions prove this with magmanimous certainty.

I advise my brothers and sisters to sit down with your reputable scholars and learn about Islam. Learn well and become the best explainers of Islam’s realities in the face of those who criticise it oppressively without knowledge.

In the spirit of being short and sweet, I end here and pray I have left you with enough to consider and develop many of your own views from.

I love you for the sake of Allah
