Explaining the notion of “beautiful patience” in 12:18, Ibn al-Qayyim says that it is patience in which there is no anxiety. [This is deep as most commentators seem to stop at saying that it is patience without complaint but to have no anxiety either is on another level of contentment with God’s decree].
Then he says, I heard Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah sanctify his soul and enlighten his grave saying, “God mentions beautiful patience [12:18], beautiful pardoning [15:85] and beautiful abandonment [73:10]. So beautiful patience is that with which there is no complaint; beautiful pardoning is that with which there is no reprimand; and beautiful abandonment is that with which there is no insult.”
