The Day Of ‘Arafah

January 27, 2015 by Sajid Umar Leave a Comment

arafah_07

Allah سبحانه و تعالى has created 7 heavens and He favoured the 7th one over the others, He created the stars and the moons but He favoured planet earth above them all. Allah سبحانه و تعالى created & sent many Prophets and Messengers but He favoured the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ above them all. Just like all the days and nights, from Ramadan to Eid, Allah سبحانه و تعالى favoured the day of ‘Arafah from amongst them all. This day is the most valuable day in a Muslim’s life – for who knows if we will be here to witness the ‘Day of ‘Arafah’ AGAIN.

The Month of Muharram

January 27, 2015 by Sajid Umar Leave a Comment

SW_ValeriyPoltorak

As the blessed month of Muharram has begun, take advantage of this time and increase in the recitation of the Quran and voluntary fasts.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah ﷺ said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“The best fasts after Ramadan is the month of Allah – Muharram, and the best prayer after the obligatory prayer is prayer at night.” (Muslim)

Abu Umaamah reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:

I love the messenger Muhammad ﷺ because….

It was just after the year of sorrow. The year in which our messenger of Allah ﷺ was struck with one of the greatest calamities. The loss of his beloved wife,  loyal friend, companion and supporter – Khadija رضي الله عنها as well as his dear, noble and honoured uncle Abu Taalib. He was a human, and so he felt the pain of these losses, both the sorrow and the grief. Tears fell down his face, as he reminisced those beautiful moments he spent with the one who held his hand from the beginning of Prophethood, till she departed from this world. Tears also fell for his uncle, who had died without embracing the religion of Ibrahim (AS), even though his love for his nephew, the Messenger ﷺ, was loyal and faithful.

Each Muslim identifies differently with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Young, old, rich, poor, powerful, crippled, whatever you may be – this man and his life speak to everyone.

I see in my Prophet ﷺ a spiritual man who was revolutionary then and now. A man who spoke out against the ills of society even when persecuted for it. A man who implored people to look beyond race, status and wealth and to instead truly connect with each other as souls. A man who loved and lost and showed us how to rise above difficult times. A man who loved his friends and enemies alike and even prayed for those who chased him away with stones and insults. The man who set the benchmark for what we all aspire to be as believers, human beings, spouses, siblings, friends, and neighbours.

Why else would millions of hearts twist in pain each time someone draws a few silly lines?

one-flew-over

One day, the Prophet ﷺ was praying in the courtyard of the Kaa’bah. Nearby, several pagan Arabs of the Quraysh were standing watching him, making a mockery of the beloved Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Among them was the evil Uqbah Ibn Mu’eet, who was one of the most disliked figures amongst the pagan Arabs.

A Mercy To Mankind [Poem]

Sometimes I stop to reflect,
To reflect upon the persona of the greatest man to walk this Earth.
You may have heard many things about him,
Yet, how much of it is the truth?

He was a real man,
called Muhammadﷺ.
My teacher, my mentor, my hero,
A shining example for you and I,
Just please,
stop, and come with me,
take some moments out,
As we experience his life together.

It is said that the Prophet ﷺ had a beautiful smile. That never would the companions meet him, except that a smile would be apparent on his face; and that the only time he would become angry was when it was for the sake of Allah, and even then, it wasn’t like the anger you see today. He was never harsh, nor cruel, nor bitter towards others.

Sometimes he would smile until you would be able to see his molar teeth. This smile that he kept on his face would fill others hearts with happiness and positivity. For indeed, a smile is symbolic of politeness, optimism and happiness.
When he walked, he walked with a sense of humbleness. Yes, a man whose sins had been forgiven, a man who had been guaranteed Paradise, a man who was one of the most beloved to Allah, never walked on this earth with his head held high. He lowered himself as a Slave of Allah. His steps were well calculated, always balanced, not too fast, nor too slow. It is like he embodied balance. Balance in speech, in movement; balance when implementing Islam. He was never extreme. Always in the middle.

His mercy was unparalleled.
And most often shown when he dealt with those who strove against him.

An example of his vast mercy can be seen during the conquest of Makkah, when the Muslims took back their home city from those who had driven them out mercilessly.

On that victorious day, as Muhammad ﷺ and his companions, ten thousand in number, entered the city of their birth and homeland, many who resided there feared the worst to happen; exile or death. So they stayed locked up in their homes, knowing that they were helpless in this situation and completely at the mercy of the Prophet ﷺ. For after 23 years of unrest in Makkah, 10 years of persecution, torture and boycotting, 13 years of war and living outside of a place they once called home, the Muslims had finally returned. So what was to be their fate?

He was orphaned at the tender age of 6 and yet surrounded by those who loved and cared for him, supported him throughout his life, and stood by his side with every trial that afflicted him.

Thus he understood that no child should ever grow up without the warmth and love of family and so he often played with the orphan children and consoled their hearts. He had a special soft spot for orphans and called towards the adoption and protection of them and kind treatment to them.

So much so that he stated,

“I and the custodian of an orphan are like this (together) in Paradise”, and he joined his forefinger and middle finger together. (Bukhari)

Allah blessed the Prophet Muhammadﷺ with children, some lived on to witness his prophethood, whilst others died in their infancy. He was one amazing, incredible and loving father.

On one instance, it is said that his daughter, Fatima رضي الله عنها ,cried when Rasulullah ﷺ was on his deathbed. Scholars say that the reason for this was because every time Fatima رضي الله عنها would walk into the room, her father would get up, greet her, hug her and kiss her forehead, but when she saw him laying there, in his final moments of his life, she cried, because he physically wasn’t able to get up and greet her. She missed this greeting, and she missed his beautiful way of welcoming her. For it made her feel like a treasure, so special in his eyes, so loved, and so cared for.
