Assalaamu alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu,
The following are summaries and pearls compiled by a follower from the ‘Blast from the past series – Seerah in the 21st century’ taught by Sheikh Sajid Umar.
Episode 1
Objectives of the seerah:
1) To develop love for the Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasallam): The more we learn, the more our love for him will grow. This also applies to Allah, for the more we learn about Allah, His names and His attributes, the more our love for Him will increase and flourish. Thus, we are worshipping Allah when we learn more about His Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasallam).
2) To learn about prophet Muhammad (salallahu alayhi wasallam): This means, to personify him. To understand that he was a human being just like us, and to strive and emulate his life by gaining a deeper understanding of his ways, actions and lifestyle.
3) To understand the Quran better: The Qur’an was revealed piecemeal. Over a period of 23 years. We learn from this, that through the Quran, we are able to learn about the Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasallam). This is because we learn about the incidents that happened in that period, and how the Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasallam) dealt with them with support of revelation.
4) To learn about the best of generations and to develop love for the companions if Muhammed (salallahu alayhi wasallam): The best generation are those who supported him. Ibn Mas’ood (r) states, that Allah looked at the hearts of all the servants and saw the best of hearts to be that of Muhammed (salallahu alayhi wasallam) so He chose Him to deliver the message of Islam. Allah then looked at all other hearts after Muhammed (salallahu alayhi wasallam) and saw that the best of hearts after him were that of his companions, so Allah chose them to be his supporting ministers.
