Assalamualaikum my dear brothers and sisters
Allah Almighty says in the 3rd aayah of Surah alMaaidha:
(الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الْإِسْلَامَ دِينًا )
“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion. But whoever is forced by severe hunger with no inclination to sin – then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”
This aayah was revealed during the farewell hajj towards the end of the life of the Messenger (Peace and Blessings be upon him)
Place this fact into your (memory plus) 🙂
Also- Surah anNasr was around the same time the above aayah was revealed according to some of the scholars of Tafseer.
Surah anNasr is as follows:
إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ
وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا
فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْهُ
إِنَّهُ كَانَ تَوَّابًا
The meaning of which is:
“When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest, And you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes, Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.”
Now fasten your seatbelts and get ready for the lessons, which are as follows:
1- This religion is complete and perfect and was completed before the passing away of the messenger (SAW). Everything required by us to ensure our salvation has been provided and there is no need for us to look beyond the book of Allah Almighty and the authentic narrations of His messenger (SAW).
2- The end of the Messenger’s (SAW) life being near due to his mission nearing completion. This teaches us the next lesson;
3- We were created for the hereafter and not for this world. We are here for a mission and should complete our mission before the end of our designated time.
4- In Surah an Nasr, Allah Almighty mentions the site of people coming into Islam in droves. Allah Almighty uses the present tense of the verb يَدْخُلُونَ which refers to ‘entering’. The use of the present tense in the Arabic language denotes continuity and this teaches us that we will see people entering Islam in droves until the day of Qiyamah! This point teaches us our next lesson;
5- It is Allah Almighty who guides and whoever He guides, none can misguide. Our responsibility is to convey and the ability of our conveyance to be effective is with Allah Almighty. We need to work hard and place our trust in Allah Almighty. This teaches us the following point;
6- When Allah Almighty uses us as a means of guidance we should praise him as there is no power nor might except from Allah Almighty. We should also praise Him because Allah Almighty blessed our words and chose us as a means.
7- We must constantly seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty when conveying the message of Allah Almighty to the world. This is important for several reasons due to our weakness in ability.
6- We learn from the above aayaat and the associated time of revelation that prophethood was coming to an end, but the legacy of prophethood was not! Rather it would be transferred to an entire nation after the passing of the final Messenger (SAW). This is clear from the advice Allah Almighty shares with us in Surah anNasr. Subhanallah!
Wallahi we can go on and on. Indeed this Qur’an is amazing and indeed we have all the tools to look after the prophetic legacy!
Happy pondering…
Your brother,
Sajid Umar
