I have a habit of kissing the Mushaf after reciting it and was told today that doing so is an innovation. I have never heard this and request some clarification?
باسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله وعلى آله وأصحابه ومن والاه
May Allah bless you.
The scholars have varying views with regards to the described practice with the mushaf. The preferred opinion, in my humble view, and Allah Almighty knows best, is that it is better to leave this practice. If one has a habit of doing it however as a form of exaltation whilst not believing it to be a sunnah; I would not call this an innovation and would advise that this act not be a consistent recurring practice to avoid others adopting this as a constant practice believing it to be a sunnah of the Messenger ﷺ
Before ending off I would like to remind myself and every reader that true exaltation of the book of Allah Almighty happens in the form of us reciting it daily and studying it to the best of our ability. It is no doubt better for you to understand much of the Qur’an as opposed to kissing it whilst having little knowledge of it’s teachings.
May Allah Almighty raise us all with the family of the Qur’an on the day of Judgement.
Ameen
